We held our final Karate Grading of 2022 here in Bristol on Saturday 17th December 2022.

A packed hall at the rugby club, students were split into two groups for the pre-grading training session.

Our younger Mon grades were put through their paces by dojo instructor Nick Bruce-Jones (3rd Dan) who had travelled up from Exeter for the event.

Kyu and Dan grades trained under Sensei Dave Griffiths (7th Dan) of SKIF Wales in Newport.
With many students training space was limited so the Kihon moves were cleverly put together utilising minimal forward & backward steps - something Sensei Griffiths said he pulled on from an old training session under Hanshi Asano in a similarly packed hall.

Students were then segregated into relevant grades and put through their associated kumite practice - Goon kumite and Ippon Kumite.

Kata practice was done by individual grades - so each kya grade was taught separately for their Heian Kata.

Similarly for the Dan grades present each were asked for their Toqui kata - Chinte, Nijushiho and Gojushiho Dai was chosen.

Kata Chinte - Nadaka Ippon Ken double strike
Karate Kata Heian Sandan Ippon Kumite - Jiyu Shuto uchi strike Kata Gojushiho Dai
