On Thursday 16th February 2023, we had two guest Instructors visit our Bristol dojo.

Husband and wife, Sensei's Andy and Jacquie Smith, joined us at our Avonmouth Rugby Club dojo for 3 hours of Karate on our Thursday evening training sessions.

Club Instructor, Nick Bruce-Jones (3rd Dan) took the first part of the beginners class running through Kihon (basics) and then Gohon Kumite (5-step sparring) for the junior grades.  Jacquie Sensei (4th Dan) then took the remainder of the class to put the beginners through the Kata Heian Shodan.

Sensei Andy Smith (4th Dan) then kicked off the second session again with some basics but concentrating more on a number of Ippon Kumite combinations (1-step karate techniques).
The session was finished off with a couple of the Heian Katas.

After 3 hours of Karate, several of the black belts retired to the Blaise Inn for a warm down - great to catch up and discuss much about karate.

Sensei's Andy and Jacquie are part of the Konjaku Shin Karate school based in Grimsby - it was great to have them down again.
It's always a pleasure to have guest Instructors visit us in Bristol and pass on some of their Karate knowledge.

Club Instructor, Steve Ashby then finished the evening off with the 3rd class of the night.

Firstly running through the brown-belt kata Jion, followed by the students partnering up to practice several bunkai techniques from the Jion Kata.

Following Jion, we then went through the black-belt kata Nijushiho.
As with Jion, we followed up on the Kata by partnering up and going through some of the more advanced bunkai moves for Nijushiho.
