The event is expected to welcome competitors, officials, instructors and supporters from across the globe, bringing together many of the world’s strongest traditional Shotokan karate practitioners under one roof.
For many karateka, the SKIF World Championships represent far more than simply a competition. They are an opportunity to experience the wider international karate family, train alongside athletes and instructors from different countries, and witness the scale and spirit of traditional Japanese karate on the world stage.
The championships in Győr are set to include:
- International kata and kumite competition
- Individual and team events
- Junior, cadet, senior and veteran divisions
- Referee and official participation from across SKIF nations
- International seminars and instructor networking
- Cultural exchange between karate organisations worldwide
The choice of Győr as host city provides a fitting backdrop for the championships. Located between Budapest and Vienna, the city is known for its historic architecture, riverside setting and strong sporting culture. Hungary has also developed a growing reputation within international karate circles for hosting major martial arts events.
The championships continue the international legacy established by the late Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa and carried forward by Nobuaki Kanazawa, helping maintain strong links between SKIF member nations around the world.
For many UK competitors, selection for a World Championships squad represented years of commitment, travel, training and competition experience. Events of this level often become defining moments within a karate journey — not only because of the competition itself, but because of the friendships, memories and inspiration gained along the way.
At Kyōtō (橋頭), we look forward with great anticipation to following the progress of the championships and supporting all SKIF-GB representatives preparing for the event.
