Kyoto - End of year bowling social at Cribbs CausewaySunday 14th December 2025 | St Bede’s Catholic College & Cribbs Causeway

Not quite the final session of 2025 — but certainly a way to finish the year in style.

Early Start, High Intensity

Karate Squad - group photo.webpThe day began with an early 9:00am – 11:00am session at St Bede’s Catholic College, where students took part in an intense, competition-style training session.

Keeping things informal, training was delivered in gi trousers and t-shirts, creating a slightly different atmosphere while maintaining the same high standards expected within the dojo.

The session was led by Sensei Steve Ashby (Chief Instructor) alongside Sensei Nick Bruce-Jones, focusing on:Karate Squad - Setting up the Tatami

  • Sharp, reactive movement
  • Competition mindset and pressure
  • Practical application of technique
  • Building intensity and resilience

It was a session that pushed students physically and mentally — exactly the kind of training that supports progression within the Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation pathway.

Stronger Together

Joining Kyoto for the session were friends from:

  • SKIF Devon
  • Westridge Shotokan Karate Club

Training alongside other clubs always brings a different energy — raising standards, building connections, and reinforcing the wider Shotokan community.

From Dojo to Bowling Alley

After training, the group headed over to Hollywood Bowl for a well-earned social afternoon.

With a great turnout, the group filled:

  • 4 VIP lanes
  • 2 standard lanes (VIP demand clearly outpaced supply!)

Each lane hosted around six people, with a full game of bowling provided by Kyoto — a small way of giving back to students for their effort and commitment throughout the year.

Who Won?

Honestly… no idea.

Somewhere between strikes, spares, and probably a few wayward gutter balls, the competition element faded into the background.

What stood out far more was the atmosphere:

  • Laughter
  • Team spirit
  • Students, families, and clubs enjoying time together outside the dojo

And that’s ultimately what the day was about.

Ending the Year the Right Way

Sessions like this reflect what Kyoto is about:

Hard training. Strong community. Shared experiences.

Not just building better karate — but building something people want to be part of.
