Kyōtō Shotokan Karate Dojo is proud to share a significant milestone, as Sensei Steve Ashby has been recognised as one of the UK’s official Platinum Champions Awards recipients.
This prestigious recognition was awarded as part of the celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, honouring individuals across Britain who have made an exceptional contribution through volunteering.
National Recognition

The awards were launched by the Royal Voluntary Service, in partnership with The Big Jubilee Lunch, and supported by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
To be included among this group is a genuine honour.
A Reflection of the Kyōtō Community
While this recognition is awarded to Sensei Steve personally, it represents something much broader.
Kyōtō has always been built on community, consistency, and shared effort. Every student, parent, and instructor contributes to an environment that extends beyond training alone.
This award reflects:
- Years of voluntary commitment to teaching and mentoring
- The positive impact of structured martial arts in the community
- The collective effort of the Kyōtō dojo and its members
More Than Karate
At Kyōtō, karate is not just about technique—it is about development.
Confidence, discipline, resilience, and respect are all part of the journey. These are qualities that extend into everyday life, shaping individuals far beyond the dojo.
It is this wider contribution that the Platinum Champions recognition celebrates.
Looking Forward

Kyōtō continues to focus on:
- Delivering high-quality traditional Shotokan karate
- Supporting students of all ages and backgrounds
- Contributing positively to the Bristol community
- Upholding the standards and values of SKIF
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.
