The announcement follows the recent National Squad Weekend in Perth, where coaches and instructors from across the country came together to assess and develop the next generation of international competitors.
In correspondence received from the national coaching team on 9th January 2026, Sharon was officially confirmed as part of the SKIF-GB squad for the upcoming World Championships, recognising her continued dedication, strong technical ability, and commitment to training and competition.
Her official selection letter stated:
“Your selection is a direct reflection of your sustained hard work, dedication, and commitment to your Karate training.”
Sharon has been selected in the following categories:
- Female Kumite 18–19 Years
- Female Team Kumite 18–39 Years
The letter also praised her regular attendance at Regional Squad sessions and strong performances at National Championships throughout the selection period.
This achievement represents another significant milestone not only for Sharon personally, but also for the Wales & Southwest Region, which has continued to produce strong performances at national level. Regional Coaches Dave Griffiths and Steve Ashby were congratulated by the national coaching team for the continued development taking place across the region.
While Sharon has earned selection for Kumite, the coaching team also provided positive developmental feedback regarding her Kata, highlighting the strength and power already present within her performance while encouraging further work on rhythm, timing, transitions, and expression. This constructive approach reflects the long-term development philosophy within SKIF-GB and demonstrates the continual pursuit of improvement that traditional karate encourages.
For Kyōtō, Sharon’s selection is a proud moment and a reflection of years of consistent training, perseverance, and willingness to challenge herself both physically and mentally. Representing Great Britain at a World Championships is a tremendous honour, and everyone at the dojo is immensely proud of her achievement.
We would also like to congratulate Phoenix Shelper and Matthew Sun on their continued progress and involvement within the National Squad pathway. Both athletes received highly positive feedback from the coaching team and remain very much part of the future development plans moving towards upcoming international events.
Sharon will now continue preparations through regular dojo training, Regional Squad sessions, National Squad weekends, and the 2026 National Championships as she builds towards Antalya in November.
Congratulations Sharon — the entire Kyōtō family wishes you every success on the road to the World Championships. Oss.
