SKIF-GB has announced another landmark event, with Hanshi Hiroshi Ishikawa (9th Dan) visiting England for the very first time to lead the 52nd SKIF-GB Summer Gasshuku on 18th-19th July 2026 at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena.

Many SKIF-GB members will remember Ishikawa Hanshi from the popular LBD (Lounge Becomes the Dojo) online seminars during the COVID lockdowns. This summer will provide a rare opportunity to experience his instruction in person.

Known throughout the karate world as “El Tigre de América”, Ishikawa Hanshi is the Founder and Director of SKIF Mexico and Technical Director for Central and South America, helping to develop Shotokan Karate across more than ten Latin American countries.

His achievements as a coach are equally remarkable. Alongside Hanshi Shiro Asano (10th Dan), he is one of only two instructors outside Japan to have coached a nation to victory in the prestigious SKIF World Championships Men’s Team Kumite. Asano Hanshi guided Great Britain to victory in Mexico in 1991, while Ishikawa Hanshi led Venezuela to the title in Milan in 1997. To date, only Japan, Great Britain and Venezuela have ever claimed this championship title.

The course is open to all karateka, regardless of organisation, making it an excellent opportunity to experience instruction from one of the world’s most respected Shotokan masters.

Hiroshi Ishikawa

Kyōtō Perspective

We are delighted to see another world-renowned instructor visiting the UK and are grateful to SKIF-GB for continuing to provide these exceptional training opportunities.

Seminars such as this are invaluable. They allow students to experience different teaching methods while remaining true to the technical principles that underpin SKIF Karate. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced black belt, training with instructors of Ishikawa Hanshi’s calibre is an opportunity to broaden your understanding and gain insights that can influence your karate for years to come.

We hope to see a strong Kyōtō turnout in Nottingham for what promises to be a memorable weekend of training.
