Wales & Southwest Squad Karate Development Session at St Bede’s Catholic College, Bristol – 20 September 2026.

The Wales & Southwest Squad returns to Bristol on Sunday 20th September 2026 for our next Regional Squad Development Session at St Bede’s Catholic College.

Taking place just one week before the 52nd SKIF-GB National Championships, this session provides an ideal opportunity for competitors to sharpen their preparation ahead of one of the biggest events in the SKIF-GB calendar.

Wales & Southwest Squad Development Session

Date: Sunday 20th September 2026
Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm
Venue: St Bede’s Catholic College, Bristol
Who: Wales & Southwest Squad members

The regional development sessions are about much more than simply preparing for the next competition. They provide an opportunity for squad members from across Wales and the Southwest to train together, develop their karate and gain valuable experience outside their normal club environment.

Training will incorporate areas of kata, kumite, fitness and competition development, with an emphasis on improving both individual performance and the strength of the regional squad as a whole.

Karate Development Session in Bristol

One Week Until the SKIF-GB National Championships

This particular session has added significance as it falls exactly one week before the 52nd SKIF-GB National Championships, taking place on Sunday 27th September 2026 at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena.

For those competing in Nottingham, the regional session represents an excellent final opportunity to work on the details that can make a difference on competition day.

Rather than trying to make major changes at this late stage, the focus is on sharpening what is already there: clean and confident kata performance, effective kumite movement and timing, competition awareness, fitness and—perhaps most importantly—confidence.

It is also an opportunity to train alongside the teammates who will be representing clubs from across our region in Nottingham the following weekend.

Developing a Stronger Regional Squad

Although the Nationals provide a timely target, our Regional Squad Development Sessions have a longer-term purpose.

Regular squad training gives karate-ka the chance to work with different partners, experience different approaches and become comfortable training and competing alongside students from other clubs.

For our younger and less experienced squad members in particular, these sessions are an important part of their development. Competition experience isn’t built solely by stepping onto the tatami at a championship; it is developed through the weeks and months of training beforehand.

Every session adds another little piece of experience.

Train. Develop. Belong.

We look forward to welcoming the Wales & Southwest Squad back to Bristol on Sunday 20th September, before heading to Nottingham together one week later for the 52nd SKIF-GB National Championships.

Stronger together.
