Adorna - Kata Tekki Shodan

Everyone at Kyōtō (橋頭) Shotokan Karate Dojo is incredibly proud to announce that Adorna (18), from Henbury Bristol, has been selected to represent SKIF-GB at the forthcoming SKIF World Championships 2023 in Győr, Hungary.

The event, hosted by the Shotokan Karate-do International Federation, brings together competitors and instructors from across the world for one of the largest and most prestigious traditional Shotokan karate events on the calendar.

The SKIF is a major single-style Shotokan Karate organisation with over 100 countries affiliated.

Taking place in the historic city of Győr, the championships will see athletes from many countries competing at an elite international level in both kata and kumite.
The event will take place from 22nd-27th August 2023.  The competition itself takes place over 3 days over 25th-27th August weekend with the week prior for a seminar, referee training and competitor registrations.

Selection to represent Great Britain is a major achievement and reflects the dedication, consistency and commitment required over many years of training. Adorna’s selection follows continued hard work within the dojo and strong performances in regional and national competition environments.

For younger karateka especially, events such as the World Championships provide invaluable experience. Beyond the competition itself, they offer the opportunity to train alongside international athletes and instructors, experience different approaches to traditional karate, and build friendships across the global SKIF community.

Adorna will be competing in the female 18-19 years categories of Kumite and Kata against the best from each country.

At Kyōtō, we strongly believe that karate is about far more than medals or trophies alone. The preparation required for events of this level develops discipline, resilience, humility and personal growth — qualities that remain long after the competition has finished.

The 2023 championships will also carry special significance for many competitors and supporters, as they continue the international legacy established by the late Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa and carried forward today by Nobuaki Kanazawa.

Everyone at Kyōtō wishes Adorna the very best as preparations continue ahead of travelling to Hungary later this year. We know she will represent both SKIF-GB and the dojo with pride, determination and spirit.

Adorna has trained with us in Bristol since a beginner and is now ready to attempt her blackbelt grading in July (a condition of her placement in the GB squad). She has trained hard the last few years and has had consistent placements in both kumite and kata at the SKIF-GB National Karate championships.

We now have a lot of work of preparations to give Adorna the best chance of success.

August is only a few months away and there will be several courses, competitions and karate squad training sessions for Adorna.
