The SKIF-GB Wales & Southwest Regional Squad returns this month with another development session aimed at helping karateka improve their technical ability, tactical understanding, and competition performance.
Following a positive turnout at the May session in Newport, the squad will once again come together to train, develop, and represent the region as preparations continue for future regional, national, and international events.

The regional squad programme is open to students who wish to challenge themselves beyond their regular dojo training. Sessions provide an opportunity to work alongside karateka from across Wales and the Southwest, developing both kata and kumite skills in a focused and supportive environment.
The squad continues to play an important role in identifying and nurturing talent within the region, while also helping students build confidence, resilience, and experience through higher-level training.
The Kyōtō Perspective
Kyōtō Shotokan Karate Dōjō will once again be represented at the session, with several students expected to attend alongside Sensei Steve Ashby in his role as Assistant Regional Coach.
Regional squad training offers valuable experience for students of all ages and grades. It provides exposure to different training partners, fresh perspectives, and an opportunity to develop the mindset required for progression within karate.
We encourage any eligible Kyōtō students considering future squad involvement to speak with their instructor about the pathway into regional training.
