Wilkinson Sword Award 2025 – Presented to Paramjit Singh-Brar “Lank”
Each year, the prestigious Wilkinson Sword is presented at the SKIF-GB National Championships to a Karate-ka who exemplifies outstanding principle, precept, and commitment to the ideals of the Shotokan Karate International Federation Great Britain (SKIF-GB).
Personally chosen by Asano Hanshi, this award recognises an individual’s dedication, loyalty, and contribution not only to their own training and personal growth, but also to the wider SKIF-GB family.
This year’s recipient, Paramjit Singh-Brar, affectionately known to everyone as “Lank”, truly embodies these values.
Lank began his Karate journey in the early 1990s at Rockwell Thompson under Sensei Ken Organ in Wolverhampton. A lifelong and loyal student of Hanshi Asano, Lank is regarded by many as one of the nicest, kindest, humblest and dedicated member of the federation, always giving
in training and bringing the same enthusiasm to every SKIF event, social, and trip.
Over the years, he has run and supported several dojos across the West Midlands, beginning with Smethwick, then assisting Sensei Geoff Jones at Jones Road Karate Club, and most recently establishing Motokkun Dojo, ensuring the continued growth and vitality of the region.
Lank has proudly represented SKIF-GB and Asano Hanshi at international tournaments and courses around the world, consistently flying the SKIF-GB flag high.
It was particularly fitting that his close friend and long-time training partner Andy Webb presented him with this special award. Together, they have shared countless hours in the dojo – and just as many enjoying post-training camaraderie.
Congratulations to Lank on this richly deserved recognition as the 2025 recipient of the Wilkinson Sword.
🏯 Kyoto Recognition and Continuity
Kyoto Shotokan Karate Dojo was proud to see this prestigious award presented within the SKIF-GB community, recognising outstanding contribution and dedication to karate.
The Wilkinson Sword of Honour is one of the highest forms of recognition within SKIF-GB. Kyoto instructor Steve Ashby was honoured with this award in 2019, following in the footsteps of his own instructor, Sensei Dave Kershaw, who was awarded the Wilkinson Sword of Honour in 1992.
This continued recognition reflects the strong lineage, values, and long-term commitment that underpin traditional karate within SKIF-GB, and which are carried forward through each generation of instructors and students.
Kyoto Shotokan Karate Dojo extends congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.
