The SKIF-GB National Squad will gather once again on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June at Flitwick Leisure Centre, Bedfordshire, for the latest National Squad training weekend.
The weekend will bring together athletes from across Great Britain for focused Kata, Kumite and fitness training under the guidance of the National Coaching Team. Training will include technical development sessions, competition preparation and scenario-based exercises ahead of upcoming international events.
The training itinerary includes dedicated Kata instruction from Sensei Pasqualino Mura and Sensei Kevin Clark, alongside Kumite coaching from Sensei Stevie Lamb. Saturday will conclude with a team dinner and social evening, providing an opportunity for squad members from around the country to strengthen friendships and build team spirit away from the dojo. Sunday morning will finish with a team fitness and recovery session.
All Kata competitors have been reminded to prepare two Tokui Kata and to familiarise themselves with the World Championship Kata requirements relevant to their category.
The Kyōtō Perspective
Unfortunately, both Sharon Joseph and Matthew Sun are unable to attend this squad weekend as it falls in the middle of the examination period. While missing a squad session is never ideal, academic commitments must always take priority, and we wish them both every success in their studies.
Representing Kyōtō on the tatami will be Phoenix Shelper, who continues his preparation as part of the National Squad programme. The training weekend will provide another valuable opportunity to develop his technical skills, gain experience alongside some of the country's leading competitors, and continue building towards future national and international competition goals.
Chief Instructor Steve Ashby will also be attending in his role as photographer, helping to capture the training, camaraderie and spirit of the National Squad weekend.
We wish all squad members safe travels and an enjoyable, productive weekend of training. Oss.
